How To Optimize AI-generated Images For Your SEO

In today’s digital world, visuals are everything. Captivating images have the potential to convey messages, create a powerful appeal to your audience, and of course, engage users. In SEO, they have an additional benefit: helping you stake a spot in Google’s image results.

But finding the right images to attach to your content is time-consuming–but that’s where the potential of AI (Artificial Intelligence) comes to play.

By leveraging the power of AI, you can effortlessly craft the perfect images, and take your optimization efforts to the next level. Let’s go over the best ways to enrich your images and unlock new possibilities for your SEO.

Understanding AI-generated Images’ Role in SEO

AI images are those created by using AI tools, which analyze massive amounts of content, datasets, and prompts to generate them. It can also understand and extract features from existing images, can recognize objects, and even understand the context or thought of the image itself.

But why is all of this important? Well, it’s because images are becoming just as important as your content when it comes to SEO. Not only are they major visible parts of your website, but they also influence the rankings and visibility of your content in Google.

And similar to content, AI tools make the job of image SEO much easier–and much cheaper in the long run. They allow us to generate relevant images that align with our content with a few prompts and clicks. Other capabilities of these tools also help you optimize your images, with minimal effort.
How to Use AI for Image SEO

Using AI for image SEO can be a game-changer. But how can you use it? Let’s look at how you can use these tools to create or enhance images for your websites:

Create Images with AI Technology

AI algorithms have the remarkable capability to generate images from scratch, incorporating selected data or parameters. And, they can make these images as high-quality and realistic as actual photos can be.

They can even create images of things that don’t technically exist. This is possible because AI models are trained on millions and millions of images, and use this as a basis to generate entirely new and realistic-looking ones. This opens up endless creative possibilities in your content, and enables you to create highly-customized and optimized pictures of various subjects, including objects, people, and scenarios–basically for anything your website needs.

You won’t have to spend time and money setting up a photo shoot for your next campaign. You’d just have to prepare the right prompt for your tool, laying out all the essential details it needs to include, and let it do its thing.

Image Enhancement Using AI

Image enhancement is all the edits we have to make to one photo so that it’s perfect for where we want to use it. The good news is that AI tools can also be used for this purpose.

Restoration and Upscaling

You can upscale low-resolution images while preserving and enhancing the important details. This technique is sometimes referred to as Super-Resolution. AI can handle this for you whenever you want to use old or low-quality images that are relevant to your content but aren’t as clear or crisp as you need them to be.

Compression

On the other hand, AI can also be used to reduce your image file size, without damaging their visual quality. Optimized image sizes can speed up your page loading times, which we know affects your page’s ranking.

Object Tagging and Recognition

AI can also analyze and identify objects, scenarios, and even people in the images. Then, they can use that data to optimize the image’s filename, alt text, and captions for you. It can even insert relevant keywords if you ask it to.

These tags help Google better understand what your image is showing users, which helps it to categorize your images properly, making sure it shows up in relevant image search results. As a result, this can boost your visibility in the SERPs.

Background Removal

Ever wanted to showcase a specific product or model, but the background of the photo is too distracting and noisy? Or, did you want to make an item your icon, but are having a hard time removing everything else in the photo? AI can help with this, and remove the background for you.

Image Composition and Cropping

AI algorithms can now also analyze and suggest proper image compositions, sizes, and patterns for the images. They can also suggest visually appealing or well-balanced layouts that are suitable for your website pages.

Benefits of AI-generated images for SEO

Optimizing your images is an essential SEO practice that often gets overlooked. Let me tell you why it’s so crucial.

Improved User Experience

We touched upon it earlier, but things like page speed, visual appeal, and layout composition are improved by using AI. These things affect user experience, which plays a vital role in customer retention, engagement, and traffic.

Basically, using AI to optimize your images can help your website be more appealing and usable for your audience, which can keep them on your website for longer.

Increased Visibility in Search Engines

Using unique, properly tagged, and descriptive images–which is easy with AI image tools–you’re optimizing your visual content for Google’s image search. In short, these tools make image SEO a walk in the park.

From this, you, of course, improve your pages’ visibility. You might even snag a few featured image snippets for your pages. Using AI to enhance all aspects of your images, even their metadata, is a good practice to ensure Google understands the context and relevance of your images, so it’s more likely to show your images to users.

How to Use AI to Create Images

How to use AI in this scenario really depends on the tool you decide to use, but most use a pretty standard process. I’ll cover each step as well as a few tools you might want to try.

Image Selection and Creation

If you’re using existing images as a guide or basis for these tools to generate new ones, make sure you’re using the right ones.

Check that your images are high-quality, original, and relevant to the content you want them to be added to.

Creating AI Prompts

If you’re working from scratch, then you need to know how to craft the perfect prompt for your tool. This will lessen the back and forth with the tool to generate the images you’re looking for.

I recommend following these considerations when writing your prompt:

  1. Mention important, specific details.
  2. Use brief, easy-to-understand sentences.
  3. Include an image reference or artistic style.
  4. Decide between creative and realistic.
  5. Use photography terms.
  6. Use AI to generate prompts.

Let’s get into each step:

Mention important, specific details

Mention everything–and I do mean everything–you want this image to have. Be as detailed as you can get. Be as descriptive as you can be too, since AI can now understand things like emotions and tone. The less the AI needs to infer or interpret, the more accurate the photo will be to your vision.

Use brief, easy-to-understand sentences

Being descriptive and adding all the details you can think of helps. But remember to keep each sentence short, and to use proper punctuation and grammar, so you can avoid confusing your AI tool.

Include an image reference or artistic style

If you can feed the AI images or visuals as a reference, do so. If not, you can describe the subject, context, and composition you want. This can be the styles of well-known painters, animators, photographers, or other artists you want your generated images to feel like. You can even include cinematography examples if you want it to have the same aesthetic and overall mood.

Decide between creative and realistic

AI can get really liberal with the stuff it creates, so you have to decide early on whether you want it to do that, or to stick to a more realistic interpretation of your prompt.

Use photography terms

You can also use photography terms and even reference specific camera models if you’re trying to generate realistic photos. Set things like your aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and terms like “candid,” or “award-winning” to create more specific images.

Use AI to generate prompts

You can teach other AI, specifically text-generators like ChatGPT, to learn how to make these kinds of prompts for you. You can further prompt them to create templates specific to the AI image tool you want to use. Priming them can help you generate extremely detailed and precise photo prompts to make the whole process even more time- and effort-efficient for you.

AI Image Tools

There are a few options for you to choose from, and I rounded up three tools that I personally think work pretty well. I did a quick review of each and included their pros and cons.

DALL-E 2 by OpenAI

Pros: Quick responses, the user owns the copyright, simple and accurate results, and higher resolution options than the original DALL-E. Can also edit the results in the application itself.

Cons: Not yet very proficient with compositionality. Fails at times with simple prompts. Possible legal issues may arise due to potential infringement of intellectual property laws.

Price: 115 Credits for $15.00

Midjourney AI

Midjourney AI, an image-generating AI you can use on Discord.

Pros: High-quality results. Easily understands provided style and references. Provides multiple versions of your prompt, with the option to refine the selected version to perfection with additional prompts.

Cons: Available only through a discord chatbot. The free trial usually encounters errors. Every image generated is displayed in public chat. Lacks in customer service and privacy.

Price: $8.00-$48.00 per month

Dream Studio

Dream Studio, an image-generating AI

Pros: High-quality results. The user interface is easy to navigate. Lets users customize the prompt result in various ways. Free credits with no interruptions. Can purchase credits on an as-need basis, instead of subscribing to a plan.

Cons: Needs very lengthy and descriptive prompts to generate the right image. At the time of writing, it only uses a beta site.

Price: $10 for 1000 credits

Key Takeaway

AI plays a crucial role in optimizing images for SEO. From image selection to file optimization, alt text and metadata automation, image accessibility, and responsiveness. We SEO Specialists cannot deny that incorporating AI in our image optimization strategy can help us effortlessly improve our website’s appeal, usability, and even our search visibility.

So, don’t overlook the potential of AI in optimizing your images. Embrace these powerful tools, craft compelling visuals, and watch as your website rises in the ranks of search engine results.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Technology to SEO

AI is no longer limited to science fiction, and has gone way beyond what conversational AI like Alexa and Siri are capable of. In fact, AI tools are now the frontier of every digital industry–including, of course, SEO.

But aren’t these AIs slowly taking over your job as an SEO Specialist? Trained to process massive amounts of data on a scale and level of accuracy that simply can’t be achieved by humans, many in the field are beginning to feel threatened.

You, as an SEO Specialist, should NEVER see AI tools as a threat to you. Instead, consider them as effective means to help step up your game in this field.

AI and SEO?

The concept of AI in SEO is not new. After all, we all know Google uses it’s own AI bots to scrape, scan, and rank millions of websites per day.

How does Google deal with AI in SEO?

The research project “Google Brain,” plus the acquisition of the AI specialist Deepmind back in 2014, the announcement of an “AI First” approach in 2016 by CEO Sundar Pichai, their most recent announcement of their own AI chatbot “Bard”–it’s very clear that this technology is something that will shape all areas of Google search.

And whatever Google deals with, SEO follows. AI and machine learning are becoming increasingly influential in our strategies today. We can expect AI to be embedded in how queries are understood, and how answers will be presented to users. It’s already being done by the likes of Bing AI.

The State of AI in the SEO industry

What’s different now is that there are now a plethora of technologies–the newly popular ChatGPT included, that are at the disposal of SEO Specialists today. And, their capabilities and features are constantly evolving and improving.

Their ability to extract insights from data at scale makes it perfect for SEO. Plus, many tools specialize in either the on page, off page, or technical aspects of SEO.

How is AI Being Used in the SEO Industry?

While generating and optimizing content is the most popular use of AI in SEO, there are several other areas that it has influence, including:

  • Algorithm changes and updates. Major search engines are integrating (or have already integrated) elements of AI and machine learning into their algorithms. This will help refine their ability to provide relevant, authoritative search results; and better understand user intent in ambiguous queries.
  • GPT-3 and AI-based writing. ChatGPT and other similarly built AI copywriting tools will be used to tackle repetitive writing jobs. Content is the heart of any SEO strategy, and certain machine learning algorithms are becoming increasingly proficient at generating human-like writing at scale.
  • Data analytics, predictive models and recommendation tools. AI can analyze tons of data at once, allowing you to size up your competition, do your keyword research, rate the technical aspects of your website, and much more in much less time. These tools can even recommend specific changes to your site to see better results.
  • Task automation. Repetitive tasks, like product write-ups, meta descriptions, and more, can be automated with the right tools. This function is often found in the same AI writing and copywriting tools mentioned earlier. This is particularly useful if the tasks follow a specific and replicable formula.

Right. SEO Specialists nowadays take advantage of the AI tools they can use to create effective website contents, better user experience, gather data, and even analyze the data gathered. In short, AI potentially equals increased productivity, saved time, and money for your SEO.

But of course, such advantages are only possible when you know what to change, what to use, and what to optimize for your SEO. Which begs the question: what can you do with the right AI tools? Let’s see how AI is affecting SEO exactly:

Better Content Creation

Content creation for your website indeed takes time. Filtering themes and relevant search results manually can take up entire days of your time. But, thanks to AI, it will shorten your time on brainstorming which relevant content you should focus on for your website.

With AI tools that can analyze and collect massive data for you, you can easily determine which relevant queries and content your audience is searching for.

It is a must nowadays to use AI tools to determine the market’s behavior, analyze how audiences behave, perform keyword research, or do site audits in order to come up with the best theme and content for your audiences and, of course, to rank in the first page of SERPs.

Here are some of the AI writing tools you can use for content creation:

Content Creation using Jasper AI

For content writing purposes, one of the best tools to use nowadays Jasper AI. It is an AI copywriting tool that can help you create unique content for your website. Unique generated content from an AI may seem impossible since most of these tools we know usually scrape content from different sources online, right?

Jasper AI team confirmed that this particular tool is trained to “almost always generate unique content.” It is also capable of pattern recognition, which allows it to write similar but not replicated content based on the template and information you give it.

One of the top features of this AI tool which I find helpful for SEO is the One-Shot Landing Page. This generates content for your landing pages, starting from H1 to H3 and with sample paragraphs you can use. You can also change the tone of voice depending on the article you are writing.

An example of the One-Shot Landing Page template in Jasper AI

But of course, as an SEO Specialist, we need to make sure to add a human touch to whatever content it generates. That means editing, adding valuable and relevant details, and checking for plagiarism. This last step I recommend for any AI-written content, whether it comes from Jasper or another AI writing tool. That human touch not only makes sure it’s SEO-friendly–but that it’s also factual, helpful, and valuable to readers.

Semrush’s SEO Writing Assistant

One of the tools I recommend when checking the quality of the contents you wish to publish is Semrush. This tool has a SEO Writing Assistant that you can use to check which parts of your contents need improvement, if it is easy to read, and if it has a high quality SEO-friendly content.

This AI tool grades the readability, SEO quality, originality, and the tone of voice of your content–and it provides recommendations on how to improve them. It can also suggest which keywords to include to optimize and make your content relevant to the topic you are writing about.

An example of Semrush's writing assistant and grading feature

What I like most about this tool is that you can make it as an extension or add-on to your WordPress, Google Docs, and MS Word to easily navigate its features without changing windows or tabs.

With this AI tool, you can improve the overall quality of your work, giving it a better chance at ranking on the SERPs, and reaching your audience.

But keep in mind that it is an AI “assistant” tool–take every recommendation that it makes with a grain of salt. As an SEO Specialist, you should see it as more of a guide towards creating great content, and not simply something to copy and paste onto your articles.

AI-Powered SEO Strategies

Can AI tools help you create an effective strategy for your SEO? The short answer is yes, it absolutely can.

AI can help you set up an effective strategy for your website and help you rank at the top of search engines. Using powerful and proper AI tools for your website can enhance your team’s productivity, and help you reach SEO goals in a shorter time frame.

You can also use your AI tools to help you determine what you should improve for your website, from your technical SEO, to your off-page strategy, to your content gaps. All this can help attract more people to your website.

One of the best AI-powered strategic moves you can do is doing a competitive analysis using your AI tools.

By this, you can easily determine how your competitors are ranking in the SERPs, what keywords they’re using, and what content they’re creating. Some tools can even analyze the outlines they use, how much website traffic they’re attracting, and more.

All this data can reveal where you can compete, and what these competitors are missing in their site. These unnoticeable weaknesses are something you can turn into your strength by making the right additions and optimizations to your website.

From this, I recommend using these AI tools for their insights. Then, use that to create a roadmap, so you can track your goals and productivity in each AI-powered task your team does.

Remember, these tools can present some pretty powerful data–but you will know how to best leverage it to your advantage. So it’s still important to look over that data and consider where it can be used.

Improved User Experience

User experience (UX) is vital to your ranking so you need to make sure that your website is appealing 24/7 aside from its basic functionalities.

Yes, even user experience can now be analyzed by AI. Much like Google’s own crawlerbots, AI can scan your site, and determine if the users are satisfied with the website functionalities and appearance. If not, then for sure, your content will rank down in Google.

To determine which factors you need to consider regarding your website’s UX, there are powerful AI tools to help you with it.

You can start with checking your website speed by using Google’s PageSpeed Insights. With this tool, you can determine both mobile and desktop’s performance and other onsite speed factors for your website, based on data collected over a 30-day period.

An example of Pagespeed's results

AI can improve your website’s UI/UX which is vital to rank on the first page of SERPs. You should optimize AI tools to quickly respond to errors that your audiences might encounter on your website or just easily avoid these inappropriate UX factors on your website that might make you rank down on Google.

Most importantly, these AI tools can help you create the best UX for your audiences and to increase website traffic to make your pages rank on the first page of Google.

Greater Ranking Results

Several tools also use predictive AI–a method of data analysis that finds patterns that might predict future behavior. In simpler terms, these tools forecast what kind of changes you should expect in performance.

With this, you can anticipate how your current strategy performs in the SERPS, and what changes you might need to make to weather (or take advantage of) jumps in SERPs.

An example of SERanking's traffic forecast

Tools like SERanking predictive AI capabilities, through their traffic and search visibility forecasts. These tools can be used for individual pages, as well as for your entire website.

Here, you can check if your traffic is growing at a reasonable rate for your industry or niche. If it is, then that’s a great sign that your current strategy is paying off–so continue what you’re doing, or strengthen your efforts to reap the benefits.

If you’re seeing some stagnation or a decline, then this is a warning sign that your strategy needs revisiting. I recommend auditing your keywords, competitors, and content. Find what’s lacking, and optimize content and assets that are not pulling their weight. You can also use this tool to learn what topics and channels should be used less in the future.

Impact of AI to SEO

The days of tedious data analysis, slugging through research, and waiting for results are coming to an end. AI tools are changing the market–and offering increased relevance and visibility, and greater efficiency than ever before.

Previously unnoticed gaps in your SEO can be identified and fixed faster than ever. More complex, more ambitious strategies are now entirely possible for SEO as well. Heavy tasks like content development, conversion and usability optimization can be handled by AI–reliably and at scale.

But as SEO professionals level up with the use of AI, the pace of the industry is sure to speed up as well. Even today we see AI in SEO increasingly dominating the market, though this technology is, arguably, still in the early stages of what they could achieve.

Utilizing AI in Your SEO Efforts

Any SEO Specialist that has been in the field for several years now noticed that any AI updates never affected SEO in a negative way. As user intent nowadays gets refined, AI algorithms keep up with the search engine results—it should go the same way with us SEO Specialists. We should keep up with the up-to-date AI tools and practices so we can take advantage and make it as an edge against competitors. So we should not be afraid of AI taking over SEO.

Though it will change how SEO goes. AI can perform SEO tasks but the results from the tasks they have done cannot always be accurate according to our SEO needs. As I have mentioned, it should be seen as an assistance because you are the specialist and they are just tools to help you get better results in this field.

Key Takeaway

AI will change SEO as we know it. From optimization to writing to building sites, it will significantly impact every aspect of the job.

As AI continues to develop, SEO will have to adapt. Us in the field have to consider adopting the best tools to stay ahead of the curve, and supercharge our SEO strategies. Soon enough the competition will be tighter. So adopting sooner rather than later will give you a long-term advantage against your competitors.

Artificial Intelligence Chatbots: Bard, Bing, and What They Mean for SEO

Search engines, as we know them, are about to move into a whole new era with artificial intelligence chatbots.

We saw it first with ChatGPT and its record-breaking adoption and how it opened up a wealth of new opportunities in the field of generative AI. We saw it again with Microsoft’s move toward an AI-powered search setup.

And now, with the upcoming launch of Bard, Google’s entry into the artificial intelligence chatbot race, the conflict between AI chatbots have already begun.

We can see it now, in real-time: companies are rapidly expediting their research and development on how they can augment AI in hopes of further improving their current search engines and platforms.

In this article, I will be discussing where we are currently in the ‘AI war’. I will also be comparing the recently launched ‘Microsoft AI-powered Bing’ to Google’s AI-integrated offering – ‘Bard’.

State of Artificial Intelligence Chatbots

Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots are a fascinating tool, trained to have human-like conversations using a process called natural language processing (NLP).

This allows the chatbot to both interpret and respond with human language naturally—which enables them to understand language and provide responses based on existing data. And, they can be trained to do just about anything.

There are, in fact, various AI chatbots that exist today that you are probably using daily, the best examples being Apple ecosystem’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa.

AI chatbots are the greatest proof of the evolution of artificial intelligence and machine learning throughout the years.

And its use cases keep on growing—and we’ve all recently seen one gain massive popularity: which is to answer specific questions. And, a great example of this is ChatGPT, an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI.From its launch in November 2022 up to writing this article in February 2023, it was reported that it reached the 100 million active users milestone. Its rise in popularity has pushed companies like Microsoft and Google in developing their own AI-powered chatbots.

ChatGPT's Chat Interface

Now back in January 2023, Microsoft announced their collaboration with OpenAI that will allow their own search engine ‘Bing’ to have capabilities and features like what ChatGPT offers to their users, and they will be launching it by March 2023.

And a few weeks later, Google directly responded by announcing that they, too, were currently developing their own “experimental conversational AI feature” called ‘Bard.’ This one was initially released in February 2023 to testers, with no set date for a public release.

Microsoft vs. Google: Who has the better AI Chatbot?

Since AI chatbots seek to give answers or solutions to their users, it makes sense that both Google and Microsoft (Bing) are making moves to bring features of it to further improve their current search engines.

But what about ChatGPT? Well, it wouldn’t make sense to compare this to the other two. One, because it finished training in 2022 (which means its information is not up to date). Two, because ChatGPT is unable to crawl the web.

Now here are some of the important information in Google’s and Microsoft’s AI Chatbots so far:

Microsoft Bing:

Microsoft started investing with OpenAI way back in 2019, and since then Microsoft has moved fast in bringing in the artificial intelligence chatbot in Bing.

Just last month, Microsoft opened the new AI-integrated Bing search in a limited preview for users to test, and the feedback from it was overwhelmingly positive71% of the users gave it a thumbs-up.

Bing-AI-Search

However, despite the good words and praises, there were some issues that came up during the testing, especially for long chat sessions ranging from 15 questions and up. Some users said that Bing became repetitive and gave unhelpful responses to their prompts.

Microsoft later addressed this problem with these changes:

  • The AI Chatbot will now be limited to 50 chat turns per day for every user, with just 5 chat turns per session.
  • When a user reaches the 5 chat turns in a session they will be prompted to start a new topic, and the context of the conversation with the chatbot will be cleared. This is to avoid the AI chatbot being confused.
  • They also added a ‘broom’ icon to the left side of the search bar to manually clear the previous conversation to start a new topic.

Microsoft also introduced its new AI-powered search engine to its Bing search engine and Edge browser for mobile devices. They also added these new features to Skype.

So, we can also expect that these AI-powered capabilities will be added to the rest of Microsoft’s communication applications—like Teams—in the future.

Google Bard:

While Microsoft was agile in launching its improved AI-backed search engine, Google in comparison seems to be taking their time in developing their own AI chatbot. It was only back in January 2023 that they even announced that they would be adding a conversational AI feature to their search engine.

This announcement was made by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. These founders were brought back to Google by its CEO Sundar Pichai, after the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which posed direct competition in the world of search engines.

Google-Bard

Since their initial announcements, we still have limited knowledge about Google Bard. None of this AI chatbot’s abilities have been revealed nor confirmed, and how it will work is a mystery. But, it does look like it will function similarly to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Here are some of the relevant (and Google-confirmed) information you might want to know:

  • Bard’s conversation capabilities will be powered by a language model created by Google called ‘LaMDA’ (Language Model for Dialogue Applications)
  • LaMDA was trained on a dataset called ‘Infinset’
  • ‘Infiniset’ is a mix of internet content that was intentionally chosen to improve the model’s ability to engage in conversation or dialogue.
  • According to LaMDA’s research paper, it is pre-trained with 1.56 trillion words of “public dialog data and web text.”

With regard to AI, Google is also planning to launch 20 new AI products this year – alongside Google Bard. This demonstrates Google’s commitment to improving its ‘search engine’ more effectively and intuitively for its users.

So Who Wins?

For probably the first time ever, Bing seems to be taking the lead against Google. By launching first, and integrating conversational style answers into their system, they’ve managed to get ahead. In fact, Bing has already opened up a waitlist and is gradually rolling it out—garnering more traffic than ever.

At the same time, Bing’s AI chatbot seems to provide more accurate answers, compared to Google’s (who gave an inaccurate answer in their promotional tweet ).

But while Bing is ahead at this early stage in the race, Google has never taken its competition lightly. They will likely figure out a way to become a significant player in the AI arena in the coming months.

What does Google Bard (and other Artificial Intelligence Chatbots) Mean for the Future of SEO?

Speaking from a Google-centric standpoint, having an AI chatbot implemented could significantly impact our SEO practices.

From the little we’ve already seen, it looks like Bard will replace the spot of the featured snippet. Much like ChatGPT, it could consolidate information from many sources, and provide a personalized answer to the user’s query. It could also provide additional insights, such as articles from the SERP, videos, and more.

For example, someone looking for a step-by-step guide on how to tie-dye a shirt would receive a guide from Bard, rather than a set of articles that may or may not have the design or style that they were looking for.

This could end up changing standard SEO practices, particularly those geared towards gaining a featured snippet. This, in turn, could shift the focus on providing more high-quality, relevant, and informative content for people looking to gain additional perspective or fact-check the answer that Bard provides.

Will Artificial Intelligence Chatbots Replace Organic Search Results?

The picture I painted in the previous sections might look bleak—but it is unlikely that Bard would completely replace all organic search results, once it is fully launched.

After all, as powerful as they can be, AI-powered tools always have limitations and may not always provide the most accurate or comprehensive answer.

Furthermore, Google already understands that not all queries are looking for one, specific answer. Sometimes, people are looking for a variety of sources to come to their own conclusions. Take, for example, if you’re looking for different types of swimsuits for your next vacation. That variety of information and content is something that they can’t get rid of.

What I think is that these new generative AI features being added onto search engines will help users gain access to answers much quicker, as they help organize complex information and multiple viewpoints right in the featured snippet.

So, will Bard, Bing, and other AI chatbots make us SEO professionals obsolete? I don’t think so. They’ll undoubtedly play an important role in delivering information to users, but SEO will not become obsolete.

Key Takeaway

With the rise of Bard, Bing, ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence chatbots pushed a shift in the industry of search engines and its development, and even two of the biggest pillars in the industry— Microsoft and Google—have pivoted their focus on it.

Let this be an important reminder for us SEO practitioners that we should be able to adapt and keep up with the rapid advancement of technology to maintain our competitive edge in the industry.

Lastly, I want to emphasize that SEO and AI are not mutually exclusive. AI will continue to change the landscape of search, but it can also be used to enhance the quality and delivery of information.

What is ChatGPT

There exists an AI bot that is used by a number of SEO professionals to build whole websites that create massive amounts of search traffic because of its capability. If I told you that you can use this software right now for free, how would you feel?

Well, you’re in luck.

Because it is indeed free to use. And you can, in fact, rank first page for a ton of keywords by piggybacking on its capabilities.

Say hello to ChatGPT – an artificial intelligence chatbot that could understand and do the different prompts and requests you give to it.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI. It is trained to answer questions or perform certain tasks that users give to it in a surprisingly human-like way. Some of the tasks it can efficiently do are writing essays, creating solutions for math problems, and even writing scripts for plays or video production.

Chatgpt's user interface, explaining what it is.

But all those possibilities are backed with limitations – so know that this artificial intelligence is limited to the data it was trained on. As of writing this article, the latest data sets that were fed to the AI date back to 2021. Therefore it cannot answer questions or do prompts that are post-2021.

So if you’re thinking about just using ChatGPT rather than Google for your questions and research, you may find yourself still having to verify the data in Google’s search database.

How could ChatGPT affect SEO?

If you’re considering using ChatGPT to replace your entire content writing team, you will be like a hundred percent of all SEO specialists who have come upon ChatGPT for the first time.

UNTIL you read my article about the predictions on AI content and how it would negatively impact your rankings long-term.

It is important for us to know that tools like ChatGPT are not designed to replace human professionals, but rather to assist and help us improve our work.

As more and more SEO professionals began to see the benefits of using ChatGPT, it has been severely abused. However, as with all things that are automated and abused by unethical SEO practitioners, Google would soon catch up and outrun these strategies and tactics. It is only a matter of time before articles published with the body of the content coming solely from AI output will be given a significant drop in rankings.

And here are some of the SEO-related tasks I think where ChatGPT could be useful:

  • Idea generation – it can be a helpful tool in the creative writing process by suggesting ideas or helping writers generate new content about a certain topic quickly and efficiently.
  • Language translation – it can be a big help in translating your content from one language to another, making it easier for both search engines and people who speak different languages to understand your website.
  • Content optimization – it can create whole short write-ups for a website’s SEO content (we recommend that you still edit at least 60 – 80% of the final publication) such as meta descriptions and title tags.

As magical as all this sounds to be, I reiterate that ChatGPT is NOT a replacement for human creativity and expertise. While it can generate ideas for content that is coherent, it may not be able to produce content that is at the level of a person who has been perfecting the skill of writing for a long time.

What is the future of ChatGPT and SEO in the future?

ai and businessman

In my honest estimates, ChatGPT is being used thoroughly by SEO specialists and savvy business owners around the world to replace mediocre content writers, researchers, and perhaps even SEO specialists.

With this in mind, I do believe that ChatGPT will keep on updating its database to reflect current data sets, perhaps even do it in real-time. If that does happen, I believe that systems and processes would be built by smart business owners around it so that the requirement for manpower would be less across industries.

Software and AI are a lot more predictable, faithful, and reliable compared to human beings. This is the sad reality of things, especially today when a lot of younger professionals hop from job to job without consideration for the people and work they would be leaving behind.

Overall, it is likely that ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence-trained software will continue to play a role in the world of SEO, but not in the role of a content writer but more of a tool that could help gather data in research and analysis.

Key Takeaway

ChatGPT is NOT and WILL NEVER be a threat to highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals and practitioners in digital marketing, specifically the SEO industry. Tools like these can help us in doing tedious work easier and more efficiently, however, the big picture strategy should always be directed by someone who is a master in the profession.

In this blog post, I’ll be reviewing a content optimization tool that can make your life easier: it’s a new roll-out by the SE Ranking team called the Content Marketing Platform

The Content Marketing Platform from SE Ranking is a time-saving tool for creating content to advance to the next level in marketing and business. It’s a simple-to-use, all-inclusive content marketing solution for SEO that covers a range of SEO factors stemming from content production efforts. Let’s check it out!

Exploring SE Ranking’s Content Marketing Platform

SE Ranking’s Content Marketing Platform is a tool that takes your content to the next level. It saves time by helping your writers automate their work and provide your business and clients with exceptional marketing results.

With the help of an AI algorithm, the tool analyzes all competitors’ content. So, in addition to keeping an eye on your rivals, you can create insightful briefs for your content marketers and copywriters and get suggestions on how to improve your messages from an SEO perspective.

The Content Marketing Platform has two main tools: the Content Idea Finder and the Content Editor. With the help of these tools, you don’t need to spend hours scrolling through articles in search of relevant and up-to-date content ideas that will bring you thousands of readers.

Features of SE Ranking’s Content Idea Finder

Let’s look closely at the Content Idea Finder. One of the fascinating things about this SE Ranking tool is that all you need to do is write down the desired topic. In a matter of seconds, you get keyword groups, which are accompanied by key SEO & PPC parameters such as search volume, keyword difficulty, CPC, and level of competition.

SE Ranking’s Content Marketing Platform: SEO Hacker Review

Another valuable feature of this tool is that it allows you to find interesting topics for your readers and the most effective keywords, which search engines also take into account.

Thanks to SE Ranking’s tool, you can get a list of the top 10 articles with the best performance in the SERP, according to the keyword in your cluster with the highest search volume.

If you still can’t pick the right keywords for your article, you can use a mind map to see a visual comparison of keywords ranked by difficulty and search volume. You can then transfer some keywords to the Content Editor to continue working on your piece of content.

Features of SE Ranking’s Content Editor

To ensure that your future content is fully aligned with SEO requirements, you can create a comprehensive brief for your writers with the Content Editor.

Setting up a brief

With the help of an automated AI-powered tool, the software analyzes the top-ranked content of your rivals. You can select the most relevant pieces from a list of competitor publications that is automatically provided according to the search intent and based on domain and page trust indicators, the total number of referring domains, word count, and the website’s visibility.

Below is what it looks like.

Then according to the list of articles, the tool suggests the length for your content, the number of used media elements, and other content parameters.

SE Ranking’s AI algorithm also suggests terms and common expressions with the needed SEO information for you to use in your text. All these suggestions are data-driven, so you can boldly rely on them (unless, of course, you know better because of niche experience).

SE Ranking’s Content Marketing Platform: SEO Hacker Review

Another part of setting the brief is the content structure. With SE Ranking’s Content Editor, you can see how your competitors build their texts and can then add their H1-H6 headings to your SEO technical assignment or use them as a reference and create your structure from scratch, and add the notes and comments with your copywriter.

When the brief for your article is finally ready, you can share a link with your content team so your writers can collaborate on your project, even without logging into SE Ranking’s account. Another option is sharing your brief via email.

Editing an article

Using SE Ranking’s Content Marketing Platform, your writers can insert the Content Editor outline from your brief and start working on the text right there on the Platform, instead of Google Docs or Microsoft Word, as the tool has all the needed text formatting features.

To make sure that the text is fully aligned with your brief and SEO requirements, the Content Marketing Platform checks all the content’s parameters and keywords, even as the team is creating the piece.

The Content Editor also has its own  assessment of the quality of drafts. The program checks the grammar, spelling, and punctuation of texts. It also defines the stop-words and grades the piece’s overall readability score. So you can be sure that your article will be high quality and bring you the best possible results.

Pricing

Even though SE Ranking released its Content Marketing Tool only three months ago, it has already been ranked by G2 as a niche product among the market’s Content Analytics Software, according to user reviews. To join those clients and assess the Module yourself, you can try SE Ranking’s SEO tool for free for 14 days and get two free content pieces with access to the Content Marketing Module.

Note: A paid SE Ranking account is needed to continue working with the Content Marketing Platform. You can get 15 articles per month for an additional $29, 30 articles for $49, or 120 content pieces for just $99.

Key takeaway

SE Ranking’s Content Marketing Platform elevates your content to the highest possible standards. The Module analyzes competitors’ content in just minutes, and with the help of the AI algorithm, you can build a customized brief with all the needed SEO requirements and notes of your content team.

Within the Content Marketing Platform, you can assess the quality of created texts and their SEO parameters, making sure that your content is also SEO-friendly.

How To Optimize Your Content For SEO With Marketing Miner

You might have encountered the line “content is king” in many SEO blogs. Creating and optimizing your content for SEO is a reliable strategy to drive more website traffic. As you do so, you can also have more websites linking to your content as it provides valuable information to their visitors.

However, it’s not as simple as it sounds. Google’s new Helpful Content Update just proves that the quality of content on your website is vital to how you will rank in the SERPs. To explain it in simpler terms, it has to be unique, relevant, and helpful for the readers.

There are tools that can help optimize your content and make your website more SEO-friendly. Marketing Miner is a new tool that we have played with and it allows you to create different analyses on SEO factors. The audits you can make on the tool are completely customizable, so you can get findings relevant to your website goals.

If you’re working on creating and optimizing content for your website, you can use some of Marketing Miner’s features to jumpstart your efforts.

Read on to know more about these features and how you can utilize them for your content.

Write Using Relevant Keywords

When you utilize keywords in well-written and optimized content, ranking for them won’t be as challenging. Of course, there are a handful of factors that come into play in search engine rankings, but it’s already been established how content is one of the most important to look out for.

To help you understand what your visitors are looking for, you can check the search queries associated with your keywords. Marketing Miner has a property that looks at your related search data. You can see this under the Miners section found in the sidebar.

How To Optimize Your Content For SEO With Marketing Miner - Write Using Relevant Keywords

The results show what people are searching for along with your keywords. For example, one of the keywords we’re ranking for is seo services philippines and I found that people are also interested in information about SEO package prices, SEO training, digital marketing, and more.

Write Using Relevant Keywords - Related Search Results

If you see keywords in the related search results you haven’t used before, use them in your content. We build the authority of our website and establish our expertise over time and creating good content is a way to do this.

It would also be helpful for your visitors to read more useful information relevant to the articles you already have.

Conduct A Content Gap Analysis

When it comes to content, you don’t want to talk about the same things repeatedly. There’s also a risk for your keywords to self-cannibalize when you do this. Cannibalization happens when you have a number of the same keywords spread throughout your website. This makes it harder for Google to identify which pages are prioritized. This means that the pages that are not as important to you might rank higher than the ones you want to rank for.

One way to know what to write about is to take a look at your competitors’ content. Marketing Miner has a Content Gap feature that shows you the keywords your competitors are ranking for but you are not. These are keyword opportunities that you can tap into to create new content for your website. Here’s what it looks like:

Content in SEO - Content Gap Analysis

I did this analysis for a client targeting the US market to look at which keywords their competitors are ranking for. As you can see from the image above, the tool shows the keywords our client is yet to rank for and how well the competitors are ranking for them.

When you export the results, you will also see the pages where these keywords are utilized.

How To Optimize Your Content For SEO With Marketing Miner - Conduct A Content Gap Analysis

This can help you learn more about your competitors’ content strategy. It is also a more competitive and straightforward approach that will help address what you’re lacking in terms of the information your visitors may want to see.

One thing to take note of in profiling your website for content gap analysis is that the data Marketing Miner offers here is limited to five countries: USA, UK, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland.

Marketing Miner Available Countries

While its other features are available in most countries, it’s a shame that such an interesting element is not available for websites in other parts of the world. This is something Marketing Miner can further improve on.

SEO is a data-driven practice, so it would be beneficial to make the platform more accessible to businesses and SEO experts worldwide.

Replicate Your Top Performing Content

SEO involves continuous experimentation. A lot of the strategies my team and I implement in projects are from my decades of practical experience. This is why it’s important to monitor how well your content is doing.

You can see your website’s top-performing pages in Marketing Miner, the keyword they’re ranking for, and their respective positions in the SERPs.

How To Optimize Your Content For SEO With Marketing Miner - Replicate Your Top Performing Content

Your top pages give you an idea of what types of content drive traffic to your website. In my example, you can see that our top pages are those that are informational and instructional in approach.

Google updates, SEO tools, and technical SEO explanations help readers know more about the trends and events in the SEO world. This is why I continuously write blogs that share valuable SEO advice and experiences with both experts and beginners in the industry.

Check Your Most Shared Content

There is another way to track the type of content people like to see on your website – that is by looking at your social shares.

First of all, you have to make your content accessible to and visible on social media. More than 4 billion people use social media as of 2022. And although SEO is more focused on search engines, social media also hold value when it comes to your SEO performance.

Social media shares send signals to boost your website’s authority and branding. They may not directly affect your rankings, but they can bring a substantial amount of traffic to your website.

When people share your content on social media platforms, it can be an indicator that they find your content interesting and worth sharing. Marketing Miner can show your most shared content on social media.

How To Optimize Your Content For SEO With Marketing Miner - Check Your Most Shared Content

The feature gives an overview of how many shares your articles garnered on social networks. An issue I found here is that it only analyzes data from three platforms: Facebook, Pinterest, and StumbleUpon.

There are more social media platforms that are also relevant today like Twitter and LinkedIn which I think should be explored more by the tool. Nonetheless, Marketing Miner is a good start to keeping track of your social signals.

Key Takeaway

Knowing how to optimize your content for SEO is a good skill to develop as a marketer. Quality content is an important ranking factor in SEO since relevance and usefulness are things that Google rewards you for.

With that in mind, creating and continuously optimizing what you publish on your website should be a priority. This is not always easy when you lack the tools and resources to do so. Even thinking of what to put out can be daunting – it’s either there are too many or too little options to choose from.

Marketing Miner offers features that can make this process easier for you. There are different aspects of your website that can help you create SEO-friendly content that guarantees traffic. These are also the types of content that improve the user experience as well as boost your authority as you give valuable information to your visitors.

SEO Powersuite Rank Tracker 2022 Review

You have probably experienced reporting first page rankings to your client before but they don’t see it on their end – that’s because your rank tracker might not be using accurate, up-to-date data.

Previously, I’ve written about this tool and how it can accurately track rankings. Today, I am going to revisit it and give you an up-to-date Rank Tracker review this 2022. Specifically, I want to highlight its distinctive features and show you its pros and cons.

Before we jump right into it, if you’re interested in signing up to explore Rank Tracker’s SEO functions, click here.

What is Rank Tracker?

Rank Tracker by SEO PowerSuite is one of the pioneers of rank tracking tools. It started around 2004, just at the time when rank tracking had only been conceived as an idea.

Rank Tracker takes keyword data from several sources. First of all, the tracker tool integrates with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Keyword Planner. It means the statistics shown such as impressions, clicks, organic traffic, and CTRs are pretty close to what really happens within Google.

Second, the company handles its own keyword database, which they claim is one of the most extensive keyword databases out there. The software comes with its own metrics to calculate competition and ranking potential, for example, Keyword Difficulty, Keyword Efficiency Index, and InLink Rank.

Now that you know a little bit more about the tool, let’s move on to review the inside of Rank Tracker.

Rank Tracker Overview

Rank Tracker is a highly adjustable software where you are not forced into using the predesigned interface. You can create your custom workspaces, leaving only the pieces of information that you need.

Rank Tracker Quick Filters

The tool contains multiple helpful features such as:

  • Target Keywords (with Rank Tracking and Keyword Map)
  • Keyword Research
  • SERP Analysis
  • Competitor Research

The other two modules left (Domain Strength and Reports) serve as quick reporting features. Here’s how each feature can be beneficial to your SEO.

Check Organic Rankings

The tool’s Rank Tracking feature allows you to quickly review your organic rankings. The default workspaces provide you with basic ranking information such as the ranking summary, ranking details, and keywords in the Top 10.

The Ranking Progress tab shows you the difference in ranks between the actual and the previous position. The Ranking Details tab lets you promptly review search visibility for the keywords, rank difference, and also SERP features available for the keywords.

Rank Tracker Ranking Progress Tab

If you have integrated your Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts to Rank Tracker, the Organic Traffic workspace lets you review keyword statistics from Google Analytics and Google Search Console such as sessions, clicks, organic traffic, bounce rate, and more.

Rank Tracker Google Analytics Tracking
This can make it easier for you to determine which keywords are the most searched and which keywords you need to work on.

Track Ranks in Alternative Search Engines

The tracker tool also supports over 500 search engines all over the world. This includes all local variations of Google, plus alternative search engines like Yahoo, Bing, Naver, Baidu, and more.

By the way, YouTube is treated as a separate search engine as well. This means that you will be able to track the rankings of your YouTube videos with this tool.

Rank Tracker Tracking YouTube Rankings
The same applies to Google Maps rankings. The Local Pack images appear marked in the SERP Features (green means your page ranks, the gray color means your competitors are there).

Rank Tracker Tracking SERP Rankings
With just one tool, you can track the effects of your efforts across multiple search engines. This can help you learn about how visible you are to more of your customers.

Track the SERPs

In the lower part of the Rank Tracking workspace, you can keep the history of the whole search results page, but keep in mind that you have to enable it manually first. You will see all 30 results recorded and stacked on each date when you check rankings.

Note: that the SERP checker allows recording history only in paid editions.

Rank Tracker SERP Tracking History

Rank Tracker also records the fluctuations on the SERPs, which can help you catch any volatility and predict upcoming Google algorithm updates.

Rank Tracker Graph SERP Tracking
Competitor Tracking

Rank Tracker lets you take a more detailed look into your search competition with its simple and robust Competitor Research module.

With this feature, you can track the rankings of your competitors (up to 5 in the professional edition). And, if you are not aware of exactly who your competitors are, you can try the Suggest Competitors feature. This reviews the SERPs and finds domains similar to yours by taking a look at your common organic keyword rankings.

Rank Tracker Competitor Tracking

Rank Tracker Pros & Cons

Rank Tracker is a desktop software, which has its own pros and cons. On the one hand, it requires you to download the installation pack and install the software. This might feel dull to users who are used to SaaS software where you sign in and access your data in a moment.

On the other hand, the desktop version lets you own all your data on your PC. You can protect it and review it at any moment. You won’t have to deal with the memory drain that often happens in Chrome with web-based tools.

The SEO software has an original design and runs several proprietary metrics. The SEO PowerSuite team also delivers regular updates about the tool, and I have found their support to be highly responsive.

Key Takeaway

If you’re looking for an all-around tool for your keyword tracking tool, check out Rank Tracker. You can track you and your competitor’s keywords across various search engines all within an easy-to-use interface.

Website Traffic Data Analysis with Google Analytics and Google Search Console

Website traffic is considered one of the main (if not the main) indicators of web success. But there is more to just attracting traffic- website owners and SEO professionals can benefit from doing website traffic data analysis and understanding website statistics and trends. Whether you’re still growing your site or already focusing on acquiring your target market- traffic data analysis can aid in your SEO and marketing strategies. What’s even better is that this can easily be done with free tools such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

What are Google Analytics and Google Search Console?

Google Analytics (GA) and Google Search Console (GSC) are two of Google’s own free tools that provide webmasters the ability to track website traffic attribution, search terms, and behavior data. Although there are a ton of options for more “feature-packed” tools that can help marketers to track these things plus other SEO factors of your website, these two already provide everything you need in understanding your website’s progress- both on the big picture and on an intricate standpoint. My team at SEO Hacker also trusts these two free tools from Google providing the necessary information for analyzing a website’s data on traffic and overall SEO performance.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics can be considered your main tool for knowing the entire story behind your website and being able to piece it together so you have a clear understanding of everything that’s going on on your website. It’s focused on providing information that is specific to what your website receives and how a user interacts with it.

Google Search Console

On the other hand, Google Search Console provides information about your website specifically in the aspect of how it is performing from Google’s search results. Here, you can find information about your website with respect to the following:

  • Search Performance
  • Google Indexing
  • Google Page Experience
  • Enhancements and security issues

To put it simply, it presents data that allows you to see your website from Google’s perspective.

Google Analytics Vs Google Search Console

When it comes to analyzing your website’s data, these two free tools offered by Google provide different sets of information for us SEO professionals and marketers to utilize. The only similarity they have based on the data sets found in their respective dashboards can be stemmed from; Google Analytics providing user traffic data that can provide you an idea of your website’s authority in Google Search, and Google Search Console provides search data that can translate to traffic coming into your website.

It is very important to acknowledge that these tools track traffic differently. There will always be certain discrepancies in data but you’ll notice that the numbers presented are still very close to each other. What’s important to take note of is that these tools can give you what you need to know about a website’s growth and how it’s keeping up with certain trends.

To learn how to set up Google Analytics, click here. To learn how to set up Google Search Console, click here.

How To Approach Website Traffic Data Analysis

Whether you’re providing website traffic data analysis for a newly SEO-optimized site or a well-seasoned website with multiple SEO strategies implemented; growth should always be your priority. Information is king. And with the information that Google Analytics and Google Search Console provide, it’s all about how well you understand that information and what you can do with it.

How To Do Initial Website Audits with Google Search Console

Let’s assume that you’ve already laid out the SEO foundation of your website prior to development. Before your website traffic data analysis, the first tool that you should be closely monitoring must be Google Search Console. Starting with the Index Coverage report.

Review Coverage Section

google search console coverage section

The Index Coverage report is where you can find how much of your web page is being crawled and indexed by Google. The term “indexed” describes web pages that are stored in Google Search’s database, which allows them to be retrieved when a search query is punched in by a person using Google. There are also instances wherein Google crawled your web page, but decided to exclude it from its database. The report marks these pages as “Excluded”.

google search console coverage section excluded pages list

There will always be certain instances wherein an important web page that’s essential in your strategy is marked as Excluded. These are the pages that Google decided to be excluded from the list of pages that can be searched by users. As an SEO professional, this provides you with information for your next action. What should you optimize more? Should you add content to the page? Build better topical authority? Whatever the reason may be, this is a good signal for you to know what to change and improve for your website’s SEO.

google search console coverage section error pages list

The Index Coverage report also provides information for pages with SEO-related errors within them. Web pages marked with Error are more penalizing for SEO than a page marked as Excluded. Errors such as your website’s broken pages (404), pages that are set as no-index, and all other errors affecting Google’s capability in indexing your pages are listed here.

I highly recommend immediately taking action when receiving this information and then looking for ways to prevent it from happening. Learn more about the common GSC errors and how to fix them by clicking here!

Additionally, although the data found here are not directly considered “traffic”, they still play an important role in your website traffic data analysis. Web pages that Google Search Console identifies as having issues will not be indexed. Having non-indexed pages on your website will result in not being searched by users. Which will ultimately lead to less organic traffic coming into your website.

Review Performance Section

The last section that you should focus on is the Performance section of Google Search Console. This section provides you with an overview of how often users interact with your website on the  Google engine results pages (SERPs).

google search console performance section

Impressions represent how many users are able to see your website within the search results pages, while Clicks provide how many click-throughs it received from those users. The main point of analyzing this data is to provide you with a basic idea of how well your website is performing in Google’s Search Results Pages. When compared to Google Analytics website traffic data, the information is almost proportional to each other. This is mainly because whenever a website receives a high number of impressions and clicks, this is also an indication of website traffic increase.

How To Do Search Traffic Analysis with Google Analytics

google analytics main dashboard

Now that you’ve taken the necessary steps in optimizing your website based on Google Search Console, it’s time to further go into website traffic data analysis by understanding how it can affect performance and growth. This can be done by analyzing the user traffic data presented in Google Analytics. To start, the majority of the search traffic data that we need can be found in the Reports section of the tool. From there, proceed to navigate into Traffic Acquisition.

google analytics traffic acquisition dashboard

From there, proceed to navigate into Traffic Acquisition. The first thing you’ll notice with the tool is that traffic data is categorized into different types. Since our main focus for website traffic data analysis is SEO, we’ll only tackle Organic Search traffic for this article.

The main indicator in understanding website growth using Google Analytics is how much organic search traffic is coming into the website. This will tell you the specific number of people going into your website coming from Google search results- very similar to Google Search Console’s method of acquiring data. The only difference is that you can actually check which of your web pages people are landing on. This information can easily be taken by doing the following:

  1. Add filters to the tabulated data by interacting with the “+” icon, then clicking Landing Page to display what pages the users are clicking within Google Search results
    google analytics filter web traffic
google analytics filter web traffic through landing page filter
  2. Then input “organic search” in the top left-most search bar of the data to allow the table to only display organic search traffic
google analytics filter organic search traffic

After having successfully accomplished these instructions, the data presented in the table should appear similar to this,

google analytics filtered list of organic search traffic based on the landing page

The data appearing within the table is now comprised of the list of web pages that are garnering organic search traffic. Since the data is sorted from highest organic traffic to lowest, website traffic data analysis suggests that these web pages are considered the most visible in Google search results. But what’s most important is that through this organized information, you can also acknowledge which of your web pages are the least visible within Google search results.

Only by acknowledging these pages can you employ a strategy focused on improving the SEO of your weakest pages. Maybe consider doing a content gap analysis for these pages and see what you can improve. Learn about it here in our Content Gap Analysis guide

As SEO Professionals, it should always be recognized that SEO is holistic by nature. Having the majority of your pages visible online equates to an overall improvement of website SEO authority. The information that Google Analytics present, provides everything you need in optimizing and restrategizing for website growth. So how can I further improve my analysis with both Google Analytics and Google Search Console?

Analyzing Website Traffic with Google Analytics and Google Search Console

One of the most volatile types of data in the world of digital marketing is organic search traffic. A lot of factors can affect the search traffic coming into your website. Some of the main factors of volatility in traffic include search algorithms, seasonal trends, an unexpected and unchecked bug in your website, and website server volatility. And all of these can be quickly figured out upon checking the GA and GSC tools. To further expound on the importance of website traffic data analysis, consider the following example.

data comparison for website traffic data analysis

One of our informational websites is receiving a decline in organic search traffic in comparison to the previous period. It lost an estimated 800 users in 1 month. To every website owner or SEO professional, this is considered an alarming loss in website traffic. Since the issue at hand mainly involves organic search traffic, the best tool to utilize next would be Google Search Console

google search console impressions and clicks comparison analysis

Based on the data presented, it appears that it is only expected to experience website traffic since there is a particular loss in impressions for the website. And since there is a visible loss in impressions, this would also affect the number of clicks the website is receiving within Google search results. What does this mean for our website traffic data analysis?

Since there are fewer impressions coming to the website, your web pages are appearing less in Google search engine results pages. Luckily, Google Search Console also provides data on the search queries that users typed to discover your website.

google search console search query list

Based on the keywords shown, it is quite noticeable how particular keywords received a major drop in impressions. This means that the website is either not ranking for the keyword or that the search query is lower for that particular period. And based on manually testing all these keywords by searching them on Google, I was able to discover that the website is ranking on the first page on all of them. And a website that ranks on the first page of Google is guaranteed impression data.

Based on all the data that I’ve gathered, we can only conclude that the website is undergoing a particular season wherein its keywords are being searched less by users. Rankings are going well, but there’s less traffic coming into the website. These are the kinds of conclusions that are only possible to hypothesize on when you employ tools like GA and GSC to provide the necessary information for website traffic data analysis.

Key Takeaway

It is very easy to be overwhelmed with data and information. But at the same time, as SEO professionals, we should also be grateful that we can easily acquire them through Google Analytics and Google Search Console. There would absolutely be no point in strategizing and executing optimizations if we have no information to prove our efforts.

It’s only a matter of acknowledging the issue at hand, identifying relevant data to collect, and properly translating that data for you to develop the planned course of action for your website. This exactly represents the importance of knowing how to do even the basic website traffic data analysis.

screaming frog crawl feature

Google has already installed Rankbrain, BERT, and MUM into its algorithms to improve its search results for its users. However, how did Screaming Frog stay on top of things? With every Google update, this SEO spider tool adds new features that are worth checking out.

One of its feature updates that I look forward to trying out for our SEO Hacker team’s future website audits is its crawl comparison feature. Screaming Frog has a tutorial on how to use this feature to compare crawls and analyze how crawl data has changed over time.

So, what did this feature do when it came to doing website audits? I explored the feature and found some neat and time-saving “tricks” that will help me and my team audit websites. Let’s get right into it.

SEO Spider Tools’ Crawl Comparison Feature Update

The reason why I look forward to Screaming Frog’s crawl comparison feature is how it will help you in the same way how it has helped us with our clients’ website audit reports.

Over the years, my team and I have done our clients’ website audits in a pretty straightforward manner. We put the URL of our client’s website in the Screaming Frog tool, then we let it crawl the site. Afterward, we save and export the data in a spreadsheet to check out and identify any errors or issues for optimization opportunities. Then we create and design an easy-to-understand PDF about the strategy and fixes that must be done to improve rankings. That’s pretty much it.

The crawl comparison feature update aims to help monitor the progress of a website’s SEO issues and opportunities. This feature lets you compare crawls over time and see the changes in data, issues, and opportunities in bite-sized information.

To see how Screaming Frog’s crawl comparison feature performs, I have done some tinkering with the feature and explored it myself.

screenshot of screaming frog's mode tab

In the tool’s interface, you will find that the Mode tab is in Spider by default. Switch it from Spider to Compare mode so you start your crawl comparison analysis.

screenshot of crawl data for comparison

To start your crawl comparison, select the files you want to compare side by side. When you click on the compare button, the crawl comparison analysis will run.

Once it’s done with the analysis, the overview tab on the right-hand of the interface will populate, showing your current and previous crawled data and changes. For illustration purposes, I used my stored crawled data in the tool from a new website we’re currently working on.

recent and previous crawled data for comparis

Since both crawled files were from the same month, there isn’t much to compare with the crawled data. Nevertheless, having explored the feature I find this to be extremely convenient for my and my team’s future website audits.

I’ve also observed that before I switched over to the database, I was using RAM and it was slowing the computer down. After the switch, my computer’s performance significantly increased while Screaming Frog was running its crawl comparison analysis at the same time.

Essentially, the SEO spider tool is in Memory storage by default. This means every crawled data is automatically stored in your computer’s short-term memory (RAM). What actually happens when the crawled data is stored in RAM is that it slows down your computer.

This explains why Screaming Frog strongly recommends configuring your storage mode to Database. When I switched my licensed tool’s storage mode from Memory to Database prior to running the analysis, my computer significantly performed better.

Benefits of Screaming Frog’s Crawl Comparison Feature

Truth be told, my team and I have been identifying technical SEO issues and monitoring our optimization efforts’ progress manually since day one.

Having experimented with Screaming Frog’s crawl comparison feature, I find it efficient in producing the data I need for my technical SEO sweep checks. While its basic crawling feature does a fine job already, I recommend you get the licensed version of the tool to access and make the most of the feature.

So, what led me to explore this little-known feature in the first place? Here are some reasons why I believe this feature might be beneficial to you as well.

It helps you save time

Screaming Frog’s crawl comparison feature makes comparing data a lot easier. It eliminates the need to manually transfer or export data from the tool into a spreadsheet. Consequently, the only tool to check your website’s technical problems and monitor its progress is the tool itself.

In addition, this feature also makes monitoring your optimization efforts a breeze. Because your crawled data is imported in the tool, you will only have to click on the File>Info tab via interface and find the crawl data you wish to compare.

It helps save your computer’s memory storage

Whenever you run crawl comparison analysis, the tool switches its processing from Memory to Database by default.

Screaming Frog is keen on the allocation of a computer’s memory. This is because you can only do so much with its free version. Switching to the licensed version of the tool will give you access to Database storage. Database storage not only lets you crawl beyond 500 URLs (especially if you’re performing audits for larger websites), but it also keeps my computer from slowing down while the tool is running in the background.

It detects the website’s other important on-page elements

The overview tab found on the right side of the interface lets you see its default key metrics including the total number of URLs, its internal (same) and external (different) subdomains, response codes, and changes between crawls. However, it doesn’t show you if other key elements have been changed, such as title tags, meta descriptions, internal links, etc. by default.

screenshot of screaming frog's key elements in overview tab

You can quickly change this by adjusting the comparison configuration for change detection in the Screaming Frog tool. Configuring this setting lets the tool perform analysis around your key metrics of choice, such as H1, page title, crawl depth, meta description, internal links, and more. For your website to rank in search engines, you need to optimize these elements.

screenshot of screaming frog's other key elements options

Click on the cogwheel icon in “Compare mode” so you can select which item you would like to detect for change.

screaming frog's cogwheel icon

Doing this is extremely useful when checking whether the title page, meta descriptions, or other SEO recommendations were already updated or not.

Key Takeaway

For years, my team and I have used Screaming Frog SEO spider to crawl and analyze to improve our clientele’s search rankings. To me, this is one of the most necessary SEO tools out there. Even more so now because of its crawl comparison feature update.

Dabbling in the tool’s crawl comparison feature is just one of its many little-known features that I have recently immersed myself in. If you have a licensed version of the tool, I recommend you try it out today and experiment with how you can consolidate it in your general website health checks and website audits.

Have you utilized Screaming Frog’s crawl comparison feature on your website audits? How did it go? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

A Look At SE Ranking’s Updated On-Page SEO Tool

Content is a cornerstone of SEO. First of all, you must ensure you’re providing valuable content to get visible on the search engine results page (SERP). And sometimes, it can be challenging to measure the page quality since there aren’t many parameters that differentiate good content from bad.

But text quality isn’t the only thing that defines page quality in SERP ranking. In fact, Google considers numerous characteristics that may impact it: user experience, content accessibility, technical optimization, and more.

To improve those parameters, you first need to measure them – this is where SEO tools come into play. With SE Ranking’s On-Page SEO tool, you can check your page’s content, SEO data, and UX metrics and get a page quality score based on those elements in a single run.

On top of that, you can compare your page with other SERP competitors using AI-based niche insights to see how to improve your page. In addition, to manage the implementation of page changes, you can use automatically generated tasks from detected issues or create custom tasks.

I previously shared my experience with the older version of SE Ranking’s on-page checker and the tool had an impressive revamp since then. Keep reading to learn how you can use the latest version.

Get Started with the New On-Page SEO Checker

Using the On-Page SEO Checker is an easy and intuitive process, so instead of lengthy instructions, let’s briefly overview the steps of how to use it.

Create a New Audit

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Create A New Audit

Navigate to the On-Page SEO checker in SE Ranking’s navigation bar and press the “New Audit” button. Note: you can access previous checks here, so you don’t need to re-run the audit whenever you want to see the analysis.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Project Dashboard

Also, you can update an existing audit with just a single click. The best time to do this is when you publish changes to the page and want to see their impact on the page score.

Another interesting thing about this feature is that you can run an audit for any page and not only URLs that belong to your projects’ domains. If you like to explore, you can use this to audit a competitor’s page, so you’ll get insights that would be hard to catch differently.

Set Up Search Settings

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Search Set Up

To set up your audit, do the following:

  1. Specify the URL you want to check
  2. Set up the search settings:
    • Select a search engine – Google or Google mobile
    • Select the target country of the SE
    • If you’re doing local SEO, you can specify the city, state, region, or ZIP code of the preferred location.
    • Specify the depth of analysis – how many SERP URLs should be used for the report. The best practice is to keep the top-10 because, in most cases, there is no sense in analyzing pages that don’t perform as well as the first page.
  3. Specify the primary keyword. In most cases, it is the search term with the highest search volume in the keywords cluster for the page. Note: The SERP will be collected by this keyword, so be page-specific to get a relevant result.
  4. Add secondary keywords so SE Ranking can analyze their usage on competing pages.
  5. If you run many audits, you may organize them by naming reports and assigning them to custom categories. This step is optional. If left empty, the name will default to the domain name of the selected URL.
  6. When everything is set up, start the audit by pressing the button. It will take several minutes to crawl the SERP, URLs and process the data.

Evaluate Data from Your On-Page SEO Audit

As I shared earlier, Page Quality is based on several categories. Each of them contains numerous checks. Let’s see what they are and how you can use them to improve your page’s SEO.

If you’re familiar with SE Ranking’s website audit, this report is very much like it. If not, it’s extremely easy to get used to it.

Assess Page Quality Score

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Page Quality Scoree

The Page Quality Score is an aggregated rating of a page based on multiple checks. It considers the page’s content and other metrics that impact page quality. By looking at the diagram below, you’ll understand your page’s current quality and see opportunities to improve it.

Analyze Competitive Comparison

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Competitive Comparison

The best way to get more details on a page’s quality is to compare it with SERP leaders. The Competitive Comparison report shows a side-by-side comparison of the terms used in your content versus that of your competitors. With this, you can see how you can enhance your page in terms of content.

You can also see other metrics like domain age or site speed to see the differences. These will give you an idea of what contributes to a page’s authority.

See Competitors’ Meta Tags and Site Structure

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Content Comparison

Besides text and keyword usage, content meta tags and structure are also important things to consider. See how your rivals form tags and headings, their keyword usage principles, and structure to find opportunities to improve your content with this metric.

Improve Text Content

The text content is all about keyword usage. The checks indicate the correct practices of keyword usage (e.g., integration of keyword in heading), so you can rely on them. Meanwhile, this section has tons of other important data about your content. This includes word count, content uniqueness and readability, and more.

You can access details on any check by clicking on it to see the comparison of your stats to the competitors. Here’s what it looks like:

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Text Content

Monitor Meta tags and URL

The search robots first see the page URL and tags in the <head> section. What comes first has greater importance, so you must ensure those elements are okay. Generally speaking, none of them should be too long but should be readable and contain keywords.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Meta Tags and URLs

SE Ranking calculates the length of meta tags in pixels and not just symbols, since different letters have different widths (e.g., “W ” vs. “I”), ensuring your title and description won’t be cropped in the SERP. The tool also checks the keyword usage in your URL. These are all important factors to consider to make sure that the searchers will see exactly what you want them to.

Evaluate Links Reports

It is no surprise that links are essential since they signal to search engines what’s relevant to your content. There are 3 categories of links: backlinks (ingoing from external sites), internal links (ingoing from the same domain), and external links (outgoing links).

SE Ranking provides an overview of your page’s status in terms of these categories.

Check Number of Backlinks

Looking at backlinks is a unique report because backlinks are an off-page parameter that cannot be shown simply by crawling the page. However, backlinks are one of the strongest ranking factors, so they can’t be ignored when analyzing the page.

Since SE Ranking regularly crawls the web, it can also show the backlinks data. While it doesn’t show the backlink list and its quality, it uncovers gaps in numbers between you and your top competitors.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Backlinks

This is a nice touch to the on-page checker since it encourages a more comprehensive SEO approach to your site instead of just focusing on on-page factors.

Assess Domain Metrics

Another indirect parameter that significantly impacts rankings is domain trust – a relative metric developed by SE Ranking that describes how Google treats sites overall.

Similar to SE Ranking’s Page Quality, it consists of numerous checks. But, unlike it, the checks are hidden, so it’s impossible to tell exactly what they are.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Domain Metrics

In the report I have above, you can see essential metrics such as domain age, page trust, and domain trust. To see if your authority is high enough to be at the top, the tool compares your parameters with the top-5 competitors.

This feature will give you an idea of how your page is fairing compared to your competitors so that you can make the necessary optimizations to improve your status.

Check User Experience

Content value is vital in SEO, but how it’s delivered is important too. User experience cannot be measured without users actually visiting your page. Still, it can be evaluated with Google’s Core Web Vitals to validate the page based on UX best practices.

SE Ranking has a separate section for User Experience that includes loading speed. This is similar to Google parameters like Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and Cumulative Layout Shift  (CLS).

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Page Speed

Just like the other reports in the tool, it presents your page speed data in comparison to your competitors. In my example above, you can see that my First Input Delay (FID) score is within the recommended value. However, you can also see that a competitor seems to be scoring better. This is a good indication for me and my team to start working on this aspect of our page.

Ensure Indexing

Your page has to be indexed by Google to get into the SERP. To do so, it has to be open for search bots and have content valuable enough for Google to deem it useful for users.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Indexing

Before analyzing everything else, it’s a good idea to make sure your page is indexed by visiting this report. If not, check if it has the robots.txt, meta robots, or a canonical issue. If that’s not the case, you should fix any page content and/or link-related issues to increase your page’s quality.

Optimize Media Files

Last but not definitely not least – you can do media file optimization with SE Ranking. Images are as important as text since they are also part of the content users came for. To increase the page quality, you must ensure images have the proper resolution, a small file size, and optimized attributes. If there are any issues, SE Ranking will show them here.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Media File

In my results, the tool found an issue with the file type on my page. A great addition to this finding is it also points out what exactly this media file is and how it can possibly affect the page’s performance.

Work on Custom SEO Tasks

All you’ve seen earlier was about analyzing your page’s data, but what actually matters is implementing action points that drive improvement to it. Luckily, you don’t need to form a to-do list for every page with all the necessary changes – SE Ranking did it for you.

If you want to get right to business: go to the Tasks section to see a list of fixes categorized by their level of priority, category, or status. You can implement everything listed there from top to bottom without delays – a great tool for doers.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Tasks

This report will show you all the issues your page has and how to improve them. You can sort them by priority to fix the most important ones, by category to simultaneously fix related issues, or by status to measure progress.

Manage Your On-Page Optimizations

SE Ranking creates only a list but a task manager for on-page SEO. You can change task status or add a custom task if something needs to be done with the page besides fixing errors. All you have to do is click the green button in the upper right corner you’ll see below.

SE Ranking On Page SEO Checker - Task Manager

With this additional element, you can immediately plan your optimizations after you’ve analyzed how it performs SEO-wise.

Key Takeaway

On-page SEO is a never-ending process that brings impressive results when done correctly. To do it right, you should consider many different things: keywords usage, media files, internal linkings, UX, and a lot more.

You’ll be spending several days just collecting and processing this data, but SE Ranking makes this process efficient. Not only does it perform all those checks, but it also delivers results in an extremely convenient way. This makes on-page optimization much easier for beginners and experts alike. And with their new Tasks feature, you can streamline this process to surpass your competitors.
